Canadian Scholarships

At the undergraduate and college level there is very little financial assistance/ scholarships available in Canada. You may check with the individual educational institution you are applying to.
At the graduate level some scholarships are available with the individual universities, based on the student’s academic achievement.

CANADIAN COMMONWEALTH SCHOLARSHIP PLAN
Under this scheme, scholarships are offered to Indian nationals (nominations are sent to the International Council for Canadian Studies) under the Canadian Commonwealth Scholarship Plan
Age: There is no restriction with respect to the age of candidates but the candidates should have obtained their first Graduation/Master’s degree as per requirement within the fast five years.
Level: These scholarships are awarded for studies leading to master’s degree.
Subject fields:Law,Political Science/International relations with particular emphasis on Canada-India relations,Education,Media Studies, Architecture, Geography, Management Studies, Computer Science, Social Administration, Economic Planning, Health Science (including Food Nutrition Management ), Environmental studies.
Tenure of Award: Two academic years and the intervening summer, except in case where a shorter period is required.
Eligibility (i) Candidates must have completed tertiary education in English medium.(ii) They must have completed Bachelor’s degree in the relevant subject field securing 55% or above marks in Humanities and Social Science group and 60% or above marks in Engineering and Technology group
Language Proficiency: Candidates must have sufficient knowledge of one of the official languages of Canada-English or French,noth written and spoken , to follow a programme of studies in Canada. Candidates who expect to study in an English Speaking University and whose mother tongue is not English must demonstrate their ability undertaking the TOEFL test. The minimum acceptable scores vary from university to university in the range of 550-600 but may be higher, depending on the programme to be followed. A number of Canadian University graduate admissions require a candidate, before entry, to take the Princeton Graduate Record Examination (GRE). The GRE General Test and subject Test are designed to assess academic knowledge and skill relevant to graduate study. Details may be obtained from GRE, Education testing Service, P.O. Box 6000, Princeton, NJ, 08451 (USA).
Value: Each scholarship is intended to cover the expense of travel, living and study, for the scholar only and normally includes:
1.Transporttation to Canada and return, buy the most direct economy air passage, as arranged by the ICCS.The cost of journeys made to Canada before the receipt of the award would not be reimbursed.
2. Approved tuition and other compulsory University fees (excluding board and residence)
3. A personal maintenance allowance.
4. Approved medical and hospital expenses.
5. An annual book allowance and certain research and equipment allowances
6. A one-time settling –in allowance.
7. Extra baggage vouchers for personal effects when returning to home country; As no dependent allowance is payable, it is essential that scholars who plan to take their family to Canada have sufficient financial resources for their support. If these resources are not available, serious consideration should be given to leaving the family at home.

RESEARCH TRAINEE PROGRAMMES FELLOWSHIPS: These fellowships are open to the international students who have a professional degree in one of the field like nursing, medicine, pharmacy, dentistry ,optometry, veterinary medicine, rehabilitative science. ONTARIO GRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME
This scholarship is open to those international students having high academic merit, who are accepted by an Ontario degree-granting institution.
