Commonwealth Scholarship for Environmental and Agriculture

This Commonwealth Scholarship is for higher studies, research leading to PhD /Masters/ Post Graduate Diploma Study in New Zealand. Two nominations are to be sent, one for a PhD and the other for a masters in the subject fields (i) Environmental Studies (ii) Agriculture and Fisheries. The amount covers International, and New Zealand domestic, air travel at the start and end of the scholarship for awardee, and reimbursement of awardee’s visa costs; Tuition Fees and other compulsory institutional course costs; Course-related costs including Text book /course costs’ allowance of NZ$300 per semester, research allowance of NZ$1000, including a return economy airfare to awardee’s home country for overseas field work for qualifications with a research component that is 50% or greater and thesis allowance of NZ$500 for qualifications with a research component that is 50% or greater. Other inputs are Medical and Travel Insurance and Establishment allowance of NZ$1250 paid on arrival in New Zealand; a lesser amount, at the rate of NZ$250 per semester is paid each full semester of subsequent years of study. The annual stipend rate of NZ$17380 is paid fortnightly to cover routine expenditure on day to day costs. Duration of the award is for three years with the provision of an extension upto one further year. REQUIREMENTS: Age not more than 40 years as on the deadline for submission of application; Candidate should have citizenship of Commonwealth developing country; be residing in their home country for at least two years prior to application; not have citizenship or permanent residence status of New Zealand or Australia, or another development country, satisfy the admission requirements of the New Zealand education institution in which the qualification is to be undertaken, including English language criteria; have been working in their country of citizenship, preferably for at least two years prior to application; hold a first class standard (or above); or a first class degree and a relevant postgraduate qualification, which will normally be a Master’s
    degree.
