Hindi Scholarship for Degree and PG studies in Kerala

Applications are invited online from first year BA/BSc/BCom students and Hindi MA/B.Ed/M.Ed/MPhil/Phd students of Government/Aided colleges and University Departments for Hindi Scholarship, 2011-12.The applicants must have studied Hindi as an optional subject.First year students of the full-time Degree and PG courses conducted by Kerala Hindi Prachar Sabha are also eligible to apply.The scholarship has been instituted to promote the national language in non-Hindi speaking states.

The scholarship amount is Rs.500 per month for degree students and Rs.1000 for all others.

The applicants must have passed the eligibility exam in the first attempt with 60% marks and also need to be pass-outs of the the academic year 2011-12. There is no prescribed limit for the applicants' annual family income.

Scholarship for PhD in Mathematics

The National Board for Higher Mathematics (NBHM), Mumbai has invited applications for the grant of scholarships to students for pursuing research for a Ph.D degree in Mathematics.

Applicants must be motivated BA/B.Sc/B.Tech/BE/MA/M.Sc degree holders or final year students of these degree courses. They must have a good academic record (1st class or equivalent grade in all years from +2 level to the present. B.Sc(Honours) students with second class may also apply.

Successful candidates will be eligible to recieve a scholarship amount of Rs.16,000/- per month for the first and second year and Rs.18,000/- per month for subsequent years, a contingency grant of Rs.20,000/- per year and house rent allowance as per central government norms where ever applicable.The scholarships are normally for a total period of four years, sanctioned for one year at a time and renewable at the end of the year, subject to satisfactory progress.

A written test will be held based on questions in topics normally covered in Master's degree programmes in Mathematics. The written test will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2012 at the following centres:

Lady Tata Memorial Trust Young Researcher Award 2012

Applications are invited by Lady Tata Memorial Trust (LTMT), Mumbai for the “Young Researcher Award - 2012” from young Indian scientists with outstanding track record in biological sciences.

Eligibility:
i) The Award is open to Indian Nationals, residing in India, who are below the age of 40 years as on 31st March 2012.
ii) The applicant should possess a Ph.D. degree in any Biological Science or a Master’s degree in Medical Sciences, or an equivalent degree in Biotechnology related areas. The applicant must have at least 4 years’ professional experience in the specific area after obtaining the above degree.
iii) The candidate must have a regular position in a University / Organization / Institute in India. He/she should be engaged in research and development and have publications arising from research done as an independent investigator in India. The awardee will be eligible for regular research grants through extramural and other research schemes of various S & T agencies of the Government of India.

The Award:
The amount of the Award will be Rs. 25,000/- per month in addition to regular salary from the host institute. In addition, the Young Researcher will receive a contingency grant of Rs. 5.00 lakhs per annum for meeting the expenses on consumables, minor equipment, international and domestic travel, manpower and other contingent expenditure to be incurred in connection with the implementation of research project under the Award.

Host Institution:
The Institution where the candidate is working will provide the necessary infrastructure and administrative support for pursuing research under this Award.

Who is Eligible:

Applications are invited from researchers around the world for ‘Hamdard Centenary Fellowship’ created by Jamia Hamdard to commemorate the birth centenary of its Founder Hakeem Abdul Hameed (September 14, 1908 - July 22, 1999).

IGNOU announced scholarships for disabled students

The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has announced scholarships for disabled students on its 26th Foundation Day."The announcement was made yesterday on the occasion of birth anniversary of late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi," a IGNOU spokesperson said in a statement today.

Prof S K Sopory, Vice Chancellor, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), delivered the foundation day lecture on 'The current higher educational scenario in India'.Prof Sopory emphasised upon accessibility, innovation and expansion as the key words towards promotion of higher education in the country.

"JNU's admission policy has given preference to socially backward people. We must emphasise on how to foster excellence in teaching and research. "We have to maintain a specific policy. How do we do that? We must make students choose life for career and not career for life," he said.

Prof Sopory further said the universities were dynamic system which brings new ideas from compartmentalised divisions. He added that there should be more emphasis on transferring knowledge. The objectives of self-education was thus one has to have moral and ethical standards in place.

IGNOU's Acting Vice Chancellor Prof M Aslam, announced nine scholarships to be awarded to the disabled students pursuing technical/professional courses at the graduate and post-graduate level with the aid of Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.

He also made the staff members of the university to take a pledge against discharging their duties effectively and honestly. Harsh Bhal, Chairman-cum-Managing Director, National Handicapped Finance and Development Corporation (NHFDC) announced 1,500 scholarships in favour of persons with disabilities.

"Under this scheme, a student with visual or hearing disability is also provided one time facility of aids and appliances. This scholarship scheme is being implemented from the current academic year and includes total fee reimbursement, books, stationery allowance and maintenance allowance," he added.

This scholarship scheme was also applicable to distance education universities like IGNOU. It was also available to those students who were pursuing Ph D or M Phil degrees.

Educational Loan for Economically Weaker Sections

The Indian Banks' Association has extended the deadline for submitting the applications for subsidy on Education Loans to students belonging to Economically Weaker Sections till 31st December. The nodal bank viz; canara bank will keep alive the webportal for submitting claims by Banks till that date. Though the IBA circualar has been issued on 2nd November 2011, the webportal of Canara Bank has not been opened till now.

According to the IBA circular, " The web portal of the Nodal Bank viz, Canara Bank for submission of interest subsidy claim by banks was made available till 31st of August 2011. We have received several requests from member banks for keeping the web portal opened for an extended period of time, as the claims are receiving from the student borrower very late due to non receipt of Income Certificate from the Competent Authorities.

The matter was examined and taken up with the Ministry of HRD to consider keeping the web portal of Nodal Bank opened till 31st December, 2011 to enable banks to submit their claims. The Ministry had considered our request and has since conveyed its approval for extending the time limit for submission of claims by banks in respect of interest subsidy on education loans till 31st December,2011.

Accordingly, member banks may now submit their claims through the Web portal of the Nodal Bank in respect of pending claims for the academic years 2009-10, 2010-11, and 2011-2012 on or before 31st December, 2011. Please note that no further extension of timeline would be provided by the Ministry for the purpose".That means,this deadline is applicable for the students who got admission this year too.

Meanwhile majority of banks didn't receive the subsidy amount till now.They will be getting the amount from their parent office shortly. Disbursement of the amount has been started by the nodal bank already.

The scholarships are fully funded and include Academic fees, International airfare, Monthly stipend to cover living expenses and UK Visa.

Applicant should be an Indian national with a valid Indian passport and currently based in India, should be below 35 years of age as on 31st December 2011 and should hold a Masters (Post Graduate) Degree from a reputed / recognised India University/Institution with a First Class award (UG and PG) in the relevant subject / field and should not have had significant exposure to UK education or received UK government funding. He / She should prove evidence of leadership qualities (to be assessed from personal statements related to extracurricular activities and/or evidence of having made a difference to the country / society / participation in symposia in the relevant subject, or peer reviewed publication in the area) and should be keen to pursue and should have identified a full time Doctoral Research Degree from the University of Cambridge commencing by September / October 2012. and make formal application to the University at the same time as to the Dr Man Mohan Singh Scholarships. They have to select St John’s College as their first choice College on their BoGs application form and also indicate on their BoGs form that they are applying for the Dr Manmohan Singh Scholarships, but also complete the section applying for funding from the University. They should apply for the Scholarship to the British Council, in the prescribed format available

by 31st December 2011 (Friday).

Only those applicants who get an offer of admission at St John’s College will be eligible for the award of the Scholarship. Candidates should not approach St John’s College directly at this stage. The British Council will acknowledge receipt of applications through the emails provided on the application form. For this purpose, applicants are requested to provide their latest email ids. However, the British Council will not be responsible for failure of on-line delivery.

Selection:
Candidates for these scholarships are selected through a process of short listing from the applications received by the British Council, followed by personal interviews, which will be held in New Delhi in April 2012. The British Council will further contact only the short-listed candidates inviting them for interviews. Applicants are requested not to contact the British Council office directly. Candidates will be expected to make their own travel and accommodation arrangements. Subsequent to the interviews the selection committee will identify the required number of candidates for the awards. The decision of the selection committee will be final. CSIR-Nehru Science Postdoctoral Research Fellowship Scheme” has been instituted to identify promising young researchers with innovative ideas and provide them with training and research opportunities in niche areas of basic science, engineering, medicine and agriculture. The scheme aims at facilitating their transition from mentored to independent research career. CSIR intends to offer one hundred (100) such fellowships every year to promising fresh PhD holders for working in CSIR laboratories with state-of-art R&D facilities.

Indira Gandhi Scholarship for Single Girl Child

he University Grants Commission has invited online applications for the award of Post-Graduate Indira Gandhi Scholarship for Single Girl Child for the academic session 2011-13 with the purpose of supporting post-graduate education through scholarships to such girls who happen to be the only child in the family.

Candidates admitted in post-graduate first year regular non-professional degree course in any recognized university or a post-graduate college during the current year i.e. 2011-12 are eligible.

ELIGIBILITY:

i) Any single girl child of her parents. In a family if one son and one daughter is available then girl child will not be considered for scholarship under the scheme.
ii) The scheme is applicable to such a single girl child who has taken admission in regular, full-time 1st year Masters Degree course in any recognized university or a post graduate college.
iii)This scholarship is available to PG-I year student only.
iv) Admission to PG Course in distance education mode is not covered under the scheme.

Age: Girl students up to the age of 30 years at the time of admission in PG courses are eligible.

Nature of Assistance available : The number of slots for scholarships may be decided every year on the basis of eligible application correct in all respects, received in stipulated time frame in the UGC.

It is expected from the institutions where student has taken admission in the first year PG course, no tuition fees will be charged by the institute from girl students to pursue PG degree course in Universities/Colleges/Institutions covered under Sections 2(f) and 12(B) of UGC Act.

The value of Scholarship is Rs.2,000/- p.m for a period of two years only (10 months in the year) i.e. full duration of a PG course. No other additional grant will be payable in lieu of hostel charges and medical charges etc.

UGC has warned that Applications submitted in hard copy shall not be entertained or considered for award of scholarship in any circumstances whatsoever and record of candidates, who are not selected, shall not be preserved beyond three months from the date of declaration of results.

PROCEDURE FOR MONITORING

+ The Universities/Colleges/Institutions will submit a certificate of completion of the post graduate course in respect of each student availing this scheme.

+ The Universities/Colleges/Institutions will submit their utilization certificate of each student availing this scheme. The grant for second year will be released on the receipt of Utilization certificate for grant of first year.

+ Students desirous of leaving the studies mid-way without completing post graduate degree will have to take prior approval from the UGC by submitting an application along with the justification through the concerned Universities/Colleges/Institution.

+ Any student who discontinues the studies without prior approval of the UGC will have to refund the whole amount through DD drawn in favour of Secretary, UGC and concerned Institution will be responsible for this.

+ No extension is permissible beyond two years.

+ The student who is awarded Post-Graduate Indira Gandhi Scholarship will not be debarred from accepting any other scholarships.

+ The Universities/Colleges/Institutions shall submit annual progress report of each student availing the scheme along with the utilization certificate.

CANCELLATION OF SCHOLARSHIP

UGC may terminate scholarship of any student in case of :
a) Misconduct of the awardees, if any, reported by the University/College/Institution.

b) Unsatisfactory progress report i.e. if the candidate scores less than 60% marks in the first year of Master’s programme (55% in case of Physically Challenged awardee)

c) Candidates being found ineligible at a later date shall face the penal action and will also be liable to refund the entire scholarship amount paid.

DOCUMENTS TO BE SUBMITTED

1. The candidate is required to submit an application in prescribed format.
2. Proof of admission to Ist Year Master’s degree course in a recognized Indian University covered under Section 2(f) and 12(B) of UGC Act.
3. A certificate from the College/University where student have taken admission to first year PG Course in the current academic year (prescribed format).
4. An affidavit on Rs.50/- Stamp paper from the student/parent duly attested by SDM / First Class Magistrate / Gazetted Officer (not below the rank of Tahsildar) copying the prescribed languages (prescribed format).

CERTIFICATES TO BE SUBMITTED BY THE CONCERNED UNIVERSITY/ INSTITUTIONS TO THE UGC

Every year University/Institution will submit a compiled statement for the following:

a. Statement giving the names of the students selected for the scholarship along with their receipt of scholarship amount.
b. Progress Report to be submitted after the completion of first year of the award giving percentage of marks obtained by the candidates

National Scholarship for Persons with Disabilities

Applications for the National Scholarship for Persons with Disabilities, 2011-12, a scheme of financial assistance, implemented by the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India, to students with disabilities, for pursuing higher and technical education, can be submitted till 31st August 2011.

Financial assistance will be available to Indian students who have a minimum of 40% disability, certified as per definition under Persons with Disabilities Act 1995.

Financial assistance is available for pursuing Post-Matric/Post-Secondary Technical and Professional courses including Ph.D & M.Phil from recognized institutions.

In case of students with disabilities of Cerebral Palsy, Mental Retardation, Multiple Disabilities and Profound or Severe Hearing Impaired, the minimum educational qualification will be a pass in Class VIII and scholarship will be awarded to them for pursuing general, technical, vocational or professional courses.

Monthly family income (includes income of the parent/guardian) of the beneficiary should not be more than Rs. 15,000/- from all sources.

Scholarship will be awarded to one student for pursuing only one course. Financial assistance can be given for computer with editing software for blind/deaf graduate and to Post-graduate students pursuing Professional courses and for support access software for cerebral palsied students.

Continuation/ renewal of the award for next year will be subject to the successful completion of the course in the preceding year with minimum 45 percent marks for Professional courses and 40% for other courses.

Assistance under this Scheme is not intended for Post-Matric/Post Secondary Technical/Professional courses having duration of less than one year.

A scholarship holder under this scheme will not be able to concurrently hold any other scholarship/stipend. If the applicant has already been awarded any other scholarship/stipend, the student is required to exercise his/her option for choosing the scholarship that he/she proposes to avail and inform the awarding authority about the same.

A total of 500 awards will be given annually through institutions in which students are pursuing studies/courses. Of this, 250 will be for male students and the remaining 250 for female students. Equal number of scholarships in different categories will be given to male and female students as under.

(i) Students with Orthopedic disability - 58 each for males and females
(ii) Students with blindness or low vision – 58 each
(iii) Students with hearing disability – 58 each
(iv) Students with Cerebral palsy, Mental Retardation, Multiple Disabilities, Profound or Severe Hearing Impairment - 76 each

The amount of scholarship will vary from course to course and will also depend on availability of hostel/residential facility with the institution.

The monthly rate of scholarship for hostellers and Day scholars will be as follows.

(i) For Ph.D. / M. Phil and Post Graduate/Graduate level courses in Engineering/Indian and other systems of Medicine/ Agriculture/Veterinary/ IT/Biotechnology, Education Management /Architecture, Physiotherapy, Music and other professional courses- Rs. Rs.1000/- per month for hostellers and Rs.700/- per month for Day Scholars.

(ii) Diploma and Certificate level Professional courses- Rs. 700/- and Rs.400/-

(iii) For pursuing General/Professional/Technical/Vocational courses after class VIII, in respect of students with cerebral palsy, mental retardation, multiple disabilities and profound or severe hearing impairment- Rs.700/- and Rs. 400/-

Besides students living in the hostel/residential facility provided by the institutions, those students who live in accommodation hired at least by a group of 3 students living together with common mess arrangement will also be considered as hostellers. Such students will have to furnish a certificate in this regard countersigned by the Head of the institution and a certificate from the owner of the house in case of own arrangement or accommodation taken on rent.

Students will also be reimbursed the course fee subject to a ceiling of Rs.10,000/- per year.

CSIR will hold the Joint CSIR-UGC Test on 18th December, 2011 for determining the eligibility of the Indian National candidates for the award of Junior Research Fellowships (JRF) NET and for determining eligibility for appointment of Lecturers (NET) in certain subject areas falling under the faculty of Science.

A candidate may apply either for 'JRF + Lectureship' or for 'Lectureship (LS) only' He/she may indicate his/her preference in the O.M.R Application Form/Online Application, as the case may be. CSIR may consider candidates applying for 'JRF + LS' or 'Lectureship only" depending on number of fellowships available & performance in the test subject to the condition that they fulfill the laid down eligibility criterion . If a candidate is found to be over-age for JRF (NET) he/she will automatically be considered for Lectureship (NET) only.

Two separate merit lists, one comprising the candidates qualifying for the award of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF - NET) and the second, of those candidates qualifying the Eligibility Test for Lectureship (NET), will be made on the basis of their performance in the Test. Candidates qualifying for JRF (NET), will also be eligible for Lectureship (NET) subject to fulfilling the eligible criteria laid down by UGC. The candidates qualifying for Lectureship will be eligible for recruitment as Lecturers as well as for JRF-ship in a Scheme/Project, if otherwise suitable. However, they will not be eligible for Regular JRF-NET Fellowship. They will be eligible to pursue Ph.D. programme with or without any fellowship other than JRF-NET. Candidates qualifying for the award of JRF (NET) will receive fellowship either from CSIR or UGC as per their assignment or from the Schemes with which they may find association. The final result of this Single MCQ test may be declared in the month of February, 2012 and fellowship to successful candidates could be awarded from 01.07. 2012.

Subjects of the Test

The Test will be held in the subjects are: 1.Chemical Sciences, 2.Earth Sciences, 3.Life Sciences, 4.Mathematical Sciences, 5.Physical Sciences

Educational Qualification: M.Sc. or Equivalent degree under the subjects mentioned above, with minimum 55% marks for General & OBC candidates; 50% for SC/ST candidates, Physically and Visually Handicapped candidates and Ph.D. degree holders who had passed Master's degree prior to 19th September 1991.

A candidate can also apply for the Test under RA (Result Awaited) category, if he/she is appearing or has appeared in his/her final year (Last Semester where Semester system is there) of M.Sc. OR equivalent Degree Examination in subjects mentioned above during the academic Session 2011-2012. Dr. Ambedkar National Social Science Research Fellowship (ARFN) which is a national level fellowship and
Dr. Ambedkar Social Science Research State Fellowship at Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai (ARFTISS) which is reserved only for eligible TISS scholars.
There are three ARFN and two ARFTISS.

Objectives: The specific objectives of these fellowships are to:
i) extend economic support to candidates belonging to the SCs to obtain higher degrees such as M.Phil and Ph.D. from recognized and reputed Universities and Educational Institutions in India;
ii) encourage scholars belonging to the Scheduled Castes to undertake research on issues pertaining to caste in general and the issues of Scheduled Castes (SCs) or Dalits in particular,
iii) to bring such issues to the centre stage of academic discourse;
iv) bring visibility to the issues of such excluded and discriminated caste groups and thereby draw the attention of the government for appropriate policy formulation and intervention.

Fellowship Grant: Each of the two types of fellowships is further divided into Dr. Ambedkar Junior Research fellowship (AJRF) and Dr. Ambedkar Senior Research Fellowship (ASRF). However, the fellowship grant for both ARFN and ARFTISS is the same as given below.Fellowship grant For AJRF: Rs.13000/-p.m. for the initial two years.

Eligibility: Both the fellowships are open only to SC candidates with a post-graduate degree in any social science or humanities discipline, intending to pursue their M.Phil/Ph.D. degree on caste and Dalit related issues on a full-time or regular basis. However, while the ARFN is open to SCs from any part of India including Maharashtra and also students of TISS, the ARFTISS is open only to SC candidates of Maharashtra who have already secured M.Phil/Ph.D. admission at TISS.

How to apply: The fellowship is advertised once in a year in major English and Marathi newspapers inviting application from eligible candidates for both the fellowships (ARFN and ARFTISS). The application format given at the end of this fellowship prospectus can be used for both the fellowships. The hard copy of application along with this prospectus can be obtained from the office of the undersigned free of cost either personally or by post by producing/sending a copy of caste certificate.

Eligibility: Students pursuing full time/regular courses in these streams & studying in Schools/Colleges/Institutions/Universities recognized by MCI/AICTE/State Education Boards/ State Govt. / ICSC/CBSE/Central Govt./Association of Indian universities, shall be eligible to apply. The student should have bonafide admission in the 1st year of School/College/Institute/University in the academic year 2011-12. Students of two year full time post graduate courses in Business Administration/Management recognized by Central/State Govt./Association of Indian universities and which are equivalent to MBA, are eligible for management stream scholarship. Students having confirmed admission in the first year of full time engineering degree course, MBBS, MBA and also 11th standard as well as those in the 1st year of 2 year ITI course are eligible to apply. In case of graduates, the average percentage of marks of all the academic years shall be treated as marks obtained by the candidate. Similarly in case of 10th/12th, if percentage of marks obtained is not mentioned by Board/University, percentage of marks obtained shall be calculated on total aggregate marks. Minimum eligibility percentage of marks for various categories will be as indicated above.

Gross Joint income of the family of the candidate from all sources (during financial year 2010-11) should not exceed Rs. 1,00,000/- (Rupees One Lakh only). Income certificate should be issued by Competent Revenue Authorities only. The marks obtained in the qualifying examination making the students eligible to seek admission in the respective first year of these courses will be considered for selection. Normalization of marks of applicant shall be done for Engineering, MBBS & MBA streams to bring parity of marking system within different Boards/ Universities/Institutions. NCERT National Talent Search Scheme 2011

Applications have been invited by National Council of Educational Research and Training, Sri Aurobindo Marg, New Delhi – 110016, from students studying in Class VIII (only) towards National Talent Search Scheme of Academic Year 2012.

The purpose of the scheme is to identify talented students and nurture their talent. The scheme, covers areas like Sciences, Social Sciences, Engineering, Medicine, Management and Law. It honours and helps talented students by providing financial assistance in the form of a monthly scholarship. For the courses in Basic Sciences, Social Sciences and Commerce, this assistance is provided up to Ph.D. level. For professional courses like Engineering, Medicine, Management and Law this assistance is given only up to Post Graduation.

Eligibility:
Students of Class VIII studying in recognized schools are eligible to appear for the respective Class VIII Stage I examination conducted by the States/UTs in which the schools are located. There will be no domicile restriction.

Scholarships:
On the basis of the examination conducted, 1000 scholarships will be awarded for each group of students appearing for Class VIII examinations. The amount of scholarship will be Rs.500/- per month as per NTS rules.

Reservation:
15% scholarships will be reserved for students belonging to the SC category, 7.5% scholarships for students belonging to the ST category and 3% for Physically Challenged Group of Students.

Selection:
There will be two-stage selection process for award of scholarship. For Stage-I, selection will be done by States/UTs through a written examination. Students who qualify Stage I will be eligible to appear for Stage II examination conducted by NCERT. The States/UTs will also conduct the selection test for National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme along with the Stage-I written examination for NTS.

The Foreign Language Teaching Assistant (FLTA) Program, funded by the U.S. Department of State provides young college teachers of English or those training to be teachers of English.

Eligibility: Be citizens of India and hold a valid Indian passport at the time of application. Persons applying for or holding permanent residence in the United States are not eligible. Fulbright fellows enter the U.S. on an exchange visitor (J-1) visa and are subject to the two-year home residence requirement associated with J-1 visa. Applicants must be residing in India throughout the application, nomination and selection process.
FLTA applicants must be at least 21years old and no more than 29 years of age on October 1, 2011.
Applicants must clearly demonstrate maturity, dependability, integrity and professionalism.
Fluency in English is mandatory. A score of no less than 213 (CBT), 79-80 (IBT) or 550 (PBT) on the TOEFL is required.
Candidates should possess the equivalent of a U.S. Bachelors degree with a good academic record. Indian applicants should have at least a Masters degree by June 2012.
Applicants must be English language teachers at the college level or training to become English language teachers.
Prior teaching experience is preferred.

Important: The FLTA Program is a NON-DEGREE program and those wishing to pursue degree studies in the United States should not apply. CHARLES WALLACE FELLOWSHIP IN SOCIAL ANTHROPOLOGY 2011-12
The Charles Wallace Fellowships are intended for Indian academic or professional social anthropologists or sociologists in their 30s or early 40s who would benefit from a period of study in a British university whilst contributing to the life and work of the host institution. The fellowship at Queens University is tenable for three months (beginning of February to end of April 2012). The fellow will be expected to submit a short report on their activities to the trustees towards the end of their visit. The total value of the fellowship is approximately #5,000 (#4,000 contributed by the Charles Wallace Trust and #1,000 by Queens University Belfast), which will cover national and international travel and a monthly stipend of about #1,200. The latter is held by anthropology on behalf of the fellow. The Queen’s University of Belfast will assist with finding residential accommodation, and will provide office space and computer facilities.

LIC Golden Jubilee Scholarship awards scholarships to meritorious students belonging to economically weaker sections of society so as to provide them better opportunities for higher education increase their rate of attainment in higher education and enhance their employability.
Scope: The   scholarship is to be awarded for studies in India in a government or   private college/university. It will also cover technical and vocational courses in Industrial Training Institutes/ Industrial Training Centres affiliated with the National Council for Vocational Training (NCVT) of classes at Graduation level.

Eligibility: Students who have passed Class XII exam or its equivalent in the Academic Year 2010-11 and are interested to pursue higher education in the field of
i) Medicine, Engineering, Graduation, in any discipline, Diploma Course in any field or other equivalent courses.
ii) Vocational Courses through Government recognized Colleges/Institutes or courses in Industrial Training Institutes (ITI).

For i) above: Candidates who have passed Class XII exam or equivalent in the Academic year 2010-11 with at least 60% marks or equivalent grade and annual income of whose parents/guardian from all sources does not exceed ' 60,000/ per annum.

For ii) above: The basic educational qualification is relaxed to Class X or equivalent with at least 60% marks in the Academic year 2011 subject to income ceiling of parents/guardians.

Duration: Scholarship shall be provided for the entire course.

Rate of Scholarship: 10,000/- per annum, ' 1000/ payable monthly for ten months by cheques to the Beneficiary.

Conditions for Scholarship:

    * (i) Scholarship shall be awarded to the students who have secured not less than 60% marks or equivalent grade in the previous final examination and the annual income of whose parents/guardian from all sources does not exceed Rs.60,000/ per annum. Students having the lowest family income shall be given preference in the ascending order.
    * (ii) The scholarship shall be discontinued if a student fails to secure 50% in B.A./B.COM. and 55% marks in other streams or equivalent grade, in the previous final examination of the course for which scholarship is awarded. Scholarship shall not be awarded for more than the normal period of time taken to obtain certificate/degree.
    * (iii) Scholarship shall not be given to more than one student in a family.
    * (iv) The students should be regular in attendance for which the yardstick shall be decided by the competent authority of the school/college/university.
    * (v) Income certificate should be on self-certification basis by way of an affidavit on non-judicial stamp paper for self-employed parents and from employer for employed parents supported by documents such as land held by revenue department in the name of parents.
    * (vi) If a student violates any other term and condition of the scholarship, the scholarship may be suspended or cancelled.
    * (vii) If a student is found to have obtained a scholarship by false statement/certificates, his/her scholarship shall be cancelled forthwith and the amount of the scholarship paid shall be recovered, at the discretion of the concerned Divisional Administration of LIC.
    * (viii) LIC Golden Jubilee Foundation will lay down the detailed procedure for processing and sanctioning of scholarships to eligible students.
    * (ix) The scheme shall be evaluated at regular intervals by the LICGJF.
    * (x) The regulations can be changed at any time at the discretion of the Board of Trustees of LICGJF

Renewal of Scholarship: The scholarship, once awarded, may be renewed during the next academic year of the course on the production of certificate that the student has secured 50% in B.A./B.COM. and 55% marks in other streams or equivalent grade in the examination.

Objective:
The scheme is aimed at bringing back researchers (Indian nationals) working overseas in various fields of biotechnology, including agriculture, health sciences, bio-engineering, energy, environment, bioinformatics and other related areas, who are desirous of pursing R&D in an Indian institution.

About the fellowship:
Selected awardees will receive a fellowship amount of Rs. 75,000/ pm (consolidated) and House Rent Allowance of Rs. 7,500/- p.m. Wherever host institute provides accommodation to the fellow, the HRA amount will be deducted by the institution. Besides, each fellow will also receive research/contingency grant of Rs. 5,00,000/ year for purchase of consumables, minor equipment, international and domestic travel, engaging manpower and other contingent expenditure to be incurred in connection with the implementation of research project.

Host institutes are encouraged to provide medical benefits, transport allowance, leave travel allowance and other benifits as per their prevailing norms as applicable to their employees of the rank equivalent to Scientist D out of their own resources/ funds.

In case an awardee finds a suitable permanent position during the tenure of the fellowship at any research institute/ university, he or she can take up the job. In that case, he/she will have to opt for either the fellowship or salary. However, she/he can continue to avail the research /contingency grant with prior approval of DBT.

Ramalingaswami Re-entry Fellows could take up fellowship at any of the scientific institutes/ university in the country. However, application should be duly forwarded by the competent authority of the host Institute.

Scholarship for Higher Education by Govt. of India

Ministry of Science and Technology, Department of Science and Technology has invited applications for `Scholarship for Higher Education (SHE)’, a component of the ‘Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research’ (INSPIRE) Programme, launched by Government of India with the objective of strengthening the National Science and Technology base and being implemented by Department of Science and Technology. The Scholarship for Higher Education focuses on attraction of talent to study Natural/Basic Sciences at Bachelor & Master’s level.

A total of 10,000 scholarships are available annually under SHE from April 2008. The scholarships are available only to those studying B.Sc, B.Sc (Hons) and Integrated M.Sc/MS Programmes in any recognized institution in India in Natural/Basic Sciences. The scheme as of now does not include courses in Engineering, Medicine, Technology and other Professional/Applied Science courses.

Each selected candidate will receive annually, a scholarship worth Rs.80,000/- in value. It will include Rs.60,000/- per annum in cash and a summer time attachment fee of Rs.20,000/- to be paid to the mentoring institution for undertaking summer time project.

Selected candidates will be supported for a maximum period of five years starting from the first year of B.Sc/B.Sc. (Hons)/Integrated course leading to M.S or M.Sc, or the completion of the course, whichever is earlier. Continuation of the scholarship for selected candidates will be based on performance in the examinations conducted and certified by the institution imparting education.

Students who happen to be among the top 1% in 12th Standard at their respective Board Examinations and are pursuing courses in Natural and Basic sciences at the B.Sc. or Integrated M.Sc. levels are eligible to apply.

Grants and scholarships are generally administered by different organizations. For details, you may consult the Cultural, Scientific and Technical Section of the French Embassy in Delhi or the Alliance Francaise Centers elsewhere. Some of these are also offered by the Indian Government. For details you may contact University Grants Commission.

Scholarships are also granted by international and non-government organizations. For an overview consult the UNESCO brochure ‘Study Abroad’,
what are the possibilities of financing your studies? If you desire to study in France, you can take advantage of different types of grants allocated by diverse organization to finance a study plan.
Three Types of grants exist:
a) Grants offered by the French government and managed by different organization. These grants are awarded directly by the French institution on the basis of merit (e.g.Programme EIFFEL).
b) Grants distributed in the student’s home country by governmental or non-governmental organizations to those wishing to study abroad. To learn if it is possible to benefit from this type of financing, you should contact those organizations likely to offer this type of grant.
c) Grants accorded by international organization and non-governmental organizations (foundations, Associations, etc.).To learn more about the nature of this kind of aid and the criteria to be met, you should contact directly the concerned institutions or ask advice from any of the “EduFrance” or” Alliance Francaise” outlets in India which will advise you on the best way to get some kind of incentives to study in France. In any case, according to the quality of your academic record, an officer of the cultural section of the embassy will provide you with tips on the way to get incentives.

Ten top scholars from India will be awarded AUD 90,000 each to do their PhDs in nine universities in the state of Victoria in Australia from next year.

This is under the new Victoria India Doctoral Scholarships Program launched today by the state government of Victoria and the Australia India Institute, a press release said.

The scholarships programme is one of a number of strategic engagement opportunities initiated by the Victorian government to strengthen relations with India, it said.

Victoria's nine universities have all agreed to provide a full tuition waiver.

The 10 new scholarships, providing AUD 90,000 over the duration of doctoral studies for each PhD scholar, will support living costs and education-related travel.

The new scholarships were launched yesterday at Australia's High Commission by the Australian High Commissioner Peter Varghese A O and Professor Amitabh Mattoo, Director of the Australia India Institute, Melbourne, together with Victoria's Commissioner to India, Geoffrey Conaghan, the release said.

"Research students from India will not just get access to some of the finest institutions in the world but also the opportunity to stay in one of the world's most livable, multicultural communities," Mattoo said.

Students from India can apply to the Deakin University, La Trobe University, Monash University, RMIT University, Swinburne University, Australian Catholic University, The University of Melbourne, University of Ballarat and Victoria University to do their PhD, he said.

Term of Scholarship
The awards are tenable for five years from April, including the preliminary instruction in Japanese language ad other subjects (one year course) given immediately after the arrival in Japan. For those majoring in Medicine, Dentistry or Veterinary Medicine, the term is seven years.
* The preliminary education can be omitted for those whose knowledge of the Japanese language is sufficient to pursue their studies or who wish to enter a university which demands no Japanese language ability. In this case, the awards are tenable for four years (six years for those majoring in Medicine, Dentistry or Veterinary Medicine).
* The grantee who has graduated and been admitted into the master’s course of a graduate school during the term of scholarship can have his/her term of scholarship extended as a result of selection. Scholarship term will be extended for two years at the maximum, and no extension shall be made beyond this period.
Scholarship benefits
Allowance: 142,500 yen (in FY 2000) per month are given to each grantee during the term of his/her scholarship, with the understanding that the scholarship will be suspended in the cased in which grantee is long absent from the university.

At present about 80 national universities have residence halls for foreign students. The grantees enrolled at universities where such facilities are available may reside, if they so desire, at these residence halls according to certain conditions. (iii) Private boarding house or apartment
Those who are not able to find accommodation in the above facilities will have to live in a dormitory of the university or in private boarding houses or apartment provided by the university.

' My past can’t tie me down,’ wrote Karthika Annamalai, who cracked the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) 2011.
In her childhood, Karthika followed her mother down into the steep quarry where the latter worked. She would sit a few metres from her mother, watching her frail body shatter stones with a heavy hammer. A heart-shaped mark on Karthika’s forehead, formed when a piece of stone hit her, is still a reminder of what life might have held for her.

Now Karthika is headed to the West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences, Kolkata, one of India’s top law schools.
